During our next holidays at Alappuzha, we can visit the great Lighthouse located on the lakeshore of Alappuzha. Alappuzhalighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses located on the south – west coast of the country.  The construction of the lighthouse was started during the rule of Marthanda Varma – II and was completed during the rule of Rama Varma Maharaja of Travancore.  Lighthouse provide directions for ship and local fisherman, which is a good sightseeing sport.  It serves as the path guide to the ships. This is cylindrical in shape and as the alternate red and white bands on its exterior. 

Lighthouse has a height  of 30 mtr which can be reached by steep 100 wooden steps. Those have breathing problem and high blood pressure should avoid climbing these steps. It  is constructed with traditional material like laterite stones and teak. Max 20 -25 people can at a time stand on the platform at the top of the light house.  One will get a best view of the sea and surrounding places. has been recognized as the most attractive tourist destination of Kerala.
